Magnolia Heaven

This weekend’s weather was absolutely unbelievable… around 80 both days.  My magnolia “Jane” trees are just now in full bloom.  The neighbor’s tulip trees have all dropped their petals and are in full green… hard to believe it’s only mid-March.  The star magnolia began is bloom period on March 9 and lost it’s last petals this past weekend as well.

There was even a bit of time dedicated to container plantings this weekend too… notice that I’m not brave enough to remove the leaves from the beds yet though.  It’s easy to cover a container during a freeze, but not so easy to cover the entire garden!  It’s unfortunate that I have to pile rocks in my containers… if not, the squirrels dig the plants out of the pots… pesky rodents!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful early spring like jewel!  (I guess it technically isn’t spring yet is it?)

  1. Those magnolias are gorgeous!! Always loved them, but we don’t see too many of them around here. Plenty of the Southern Magnolias, though.

  2. Oh, so pretty!! Why didn’t I sneak that pot into the trunk?

  3. Lovely! I wouldn’t have thought to use that shade of green, but love the way it looks.

Are you getting any of that rain?

  4. thanks michaela… i have a southern magnolia, but it has never bloomed so it must be sterile.

    because you couldn’t lift it my023 :)

sandy thanks… yes jewel has probably had 3 or 4 inches today. nice steady spring rain and things really grew while i was at work today!!

  5. Beautiful flowers! I envy you your spring! We are still getting snow showers, nights in the 20’s and days in the low 40’s. Maybe I dozed off and missed spring and summer?

  6. Certainly looks like Spring there! We are just at the cusp with our magnolias putting out their catkins.

  7. thanks terry… it’s back to march weather now. it’s in the 50’s and 60’s this week and every day dreary with rain. i think everything grew 6″ in the last 24 hours.

tracy it is spring and it is like a bronco bustin’ out of the shoot (or something like that… ala montucky) :)

  8. Gorgeous pictures. Absolutely…
